Is the soul real?

 Is the soul real?

That is, I believe, an interesting question in these times of AI evolution. From the Dallas 2025 conference on Science & Faith we can listen to the neurosurgeon Michael Egnor explaing "The Scientific Evidence of the Human Soul". Michael has also written the book "The immortal mind".

Some eX4mat!ve statements from the lecture:

#1 Does the soul exist as something separate from the brain?

Divided preception - united consciousness

There is something in the mind that is not in the brain

"Free won´t" exists outside the brain

Emotion is a material state of the brain

Did the mind evolve?
The abstract powers of the mind could not evolve,
because abstract thought is not material

Is the brain the organ of the mind?
The brain is the organ of movement, perception, memory and emotion.
There is no organ of intellect and will

The soul exists.

The soul animates a human being.

#2 What is the soul?

Soul knows, loves, and animates

Soul has no parts

Soul has no location

Soul is not in time

Soul abides

The soul is a spirit

Our spirit is our soul.

We are a paradigm of all creation
- one foot in matter: body, movement, sensation, memory and emotion
- one foot in spirit: intellect and free will

God is infinite spirit - we are created in His image

#3 Is the soul immortal?

Can spirit die?

Matter always exists

Life is the integration of matter

Death is disintegration of matter

Your spiritual soul has no "off" switch

The soul is immortal

How can spirit see without eyes?

Aquinas:
"The soul in death sees by the divine light"
