Islam and the future of tolerance

Jag är intresserad av historia och av samhällsutvecklingen. Jag har under en längre tid följt Henrik Jönsson via YouTube och är av uppfattningen att han är fenomenal på att djupdyka inom olika aktuella ämnesområden samt att vaska fram fakta som belyser dessa unika skeenden. Henrik är ju tydligt "höger" och beskriver sig själv som "oberoende frihetlig entreprenör, författare och samhällsdebattör". Det är tydligt att han skarpt ogillar miljöpartiet och socialdemokratisk politik. Hans senaste inlägg "Jihad mot väst" gjorde mig upprörd och några timmar senare hade jag kollat på otaliga Youtube-klipp som inte gjorde mig mindre upprörd... jag behövde samla mig.

Det jag behövde klargöra är - hur farlig är egentligen islamismen för det västerländska samhället?

Jag hittade en några år gammal dokumentär som beskriver utmaningen på ett nyanserat och faktamässigt sätt; "Islam and the future of tolerance" gjord av Sam Harris & Maajid Nawaz.

Viktigaste lärdomar från dokumentären:

the triple threat

Identify the dangers of the far right, the control left and these theocrats.
The biggest risk towards world security at the moment are Jihadists,
but their enablers on the regressive left are a problem
and the far right are rising.

the Muslim world

Jihadists
people who are waking up each day trying to figure out how to kill infidels and apostates

Islamists
more political motivation and who are probably less eager to kill or get killed

Conservative Muslims
while they may not be quite secular, they are obviously not people who think that ISIS has any implication for them

Secular Muslims
muslims who just don´t have a voice

Nature of scriptures

Quran
Known as the word of God.
The original source of revelation and scripture.

Muhammad
The prophet of Islam

Hadith
Individual sentences or paragraphs that are attributed to Muhammad

Sunnah
The entirety of the prophet´s life and the example he set

Free speech
...must come first
It´s only through talking with those that we disagree with
can we hope to ever achieve any form of progress.
Conversation is the only remedy to the problem.

You have to make a distinction between Islam as a set of ideas,
as an organising principle, as a faith...
and Muslims.
